Growth is one of Supportful's values. We define it as our commitment "to nurture the growth and development of our team members, both professionally and personally." In line with this, we devised since the company's inception a collaborative and continuous training program for our team members.
In this article, I'm going to walk you through the program details, how it's implemented, and the feedback from Supportfulers about it.
The training program is meant to keep software engineers on a growth path. The company sponsors up to 50h a year per person for them to learn new skills.
The program is tailored to each person's own professional growth. We focus on the next step in their career and choose the topic accordingly.
Upon completion, the software engineer gets a bonus.
The training program should make sense to the software engineer first and then to the company. Growth should not come at the expense of the person taking the training.
We aim to answer 3 questions when agreeing on the training content:
For example, a frontend engineer looking to become a full stack engineer would focus on learning a backend technology. A tech lead with advanced programming skills might need a soft skills training for them to become a team lead. For a well-rounded and senior engineer, we might choose an AI learning path to give them more breadth.
There are no constraints when it comes to the platform where the training takes place. It could be via courses from Udemy, Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, AWS, or any other recognized learning platform. Or it could be via online bootcamps to learn and prepare for a certification.
Supportful is a staff augmentation company. Our software engineers integrate our clients' teams to help them deliver faster and better. We aim to take a win-win-win approach where the software engineer, the client, and our company are all winners.
For the software engineer taking the training, learning a new skill is obviously a win. It makes their profile more interesting to future clients, it helps them achieve their long-term career objective, and it yields a financial reward by Supportful.
For the client, having a team member who is improving in at least one area every year is a win. The translation of this improvement is reflected in the work delivered for them.
For Supportful, it's important that our engineers are always on a growth path. This makes us all grow as a team. We also benefit from a better employability for each team member.
In our last annual employee satisfaction survey, 88.9% of the team agreed or strongly agreed with the statement "Supportful is dedicated to my professional development." We're confident that our collaborative approach to training played an important role in reaching that high level of approval.
Supportful’s training program is a personalized, collaborative growth initiative that gives each engineer up to 50 hours per year to learn skills aligned with their career path. It creates a win-win-win system where employees grow professionally, clients benefit from better talent, and the company strengthens overall capability and retention.
